On the Road (2012)

The Keystone Art Cinema in Indy has the state’s only new limited releases with documentary The Gatekeepers and Kerouac adaptation On the Road. On the other hand, the repertory listings are extensive, especially in the southern part of the state. Read more »

Emperor (2013)

My top pick for the week is Sanguivorous, an experimental contemporary silent vampire movie from Japan showing tonight at 7 at the IMA in Indianapolis. With live accompaniment on percussion instruments by a Japanese musician. It may be good; it will be definitely be a unique moviegoing experience. Read more »

Emperor (2013)

The listings are comparatively thin this week thanks to spring break at the universities. Indianapolis gets the only- numbering two- new limited releases, but my top moviegoing priority is In the Mood for Love tonight at the IMA. Read more »

The Attacks of 26/11 (2013)

I’m looking forward to seeing My Beautiful Laundrette- one of the best written movies ever made- on the Toby’s big screen tonight. Also of interest here in Indianapolis is The Attacks of 26/11, an Indian film dramatizing the 2008 terrorist attack in Mumbai; it’s playing at the G14. Wherever you live you can see Quartet this week as it expands in a big way around the state. Read more »

For those in an Oscar frame of mind, there are showings of the nominated short film programs in Indianapolis, Bloomington, Mishawaka, and South Bend. Read more »

Special 26 (2012)

This week is something of a repeat of the last one, as Indiana once again gets some more newly-arrived Oscar nominees on a few big screens around the state, along with a Bollywood newbie with no Academy Award nominations. The gravitational sway of the little golden man also can be seen in the nomination-heavy movies that make up a number of the limited releases being held over in Indiana theaters this week. And it isn’t over yet, either, as we have a film nominated for Best Picture, Best Actress, and Best Director scheduled to open in the Hoosier state next week. Read on below for all of the details….

A Royal Affair (2012)

It isn’t all about Oscar this time around, but it might as well be. Several Academy Award wannabes make their way to Indiana this week, including both a foreign language feature film and some mini-nominees. February 1 also features the Indiana debut of an Oscar-winning actor’s directorial bow, and a multiple Academy Award nominee returning to the big screen in the state. But in the “One of These Things Is Not Like the Others” department, we also get a Bollywood triple feature, of sorts, with three movies in one- but no known Oscar connection….
