@Ken: You should catch DREDD before it leaves town. It's right up your alley and it is a big screen movie. I'm not as enthusiastic as Nir but I liked it quite a lot. There's really no comparison with the Stallone film, if that's what's worrying you (and having seen it in the theater myself back in the day, I can see why it would ^_^). Karl Urban is terrific as Dredd and the production design and effects teams did a great job realizing the dystopian sci-fi setting. The action is pretty much routine shoot 'em up stuff, but the movie's as much if not more a cop thriller as an action movie.

Well, for starters its cinematography is gorgeous; the camerawork is always steady, never handheld, and the edits are never too quick. And the colour schemes resemble strong colours that are usually found in comics but feel real, even the look of the film is heavily stylized.

Also, Karl Urban IS Dredd. He never removes the helmet (just like in the comics), he is great at his job, and he's terrifically efficient. The music is also excellent. The violence depicted in the film is also stylized, but very bloody, and sometimes very gory. But that's just a part of the world in which Dredd exists.

It's simply an an awesome film. Every aspect of it is awesome and it makes you feel good while you watch it. The Stallone film, as aforementioned, is total garbage and only makes this newer one look, feel, and sound superior, which it is and without even trying hard.

I've heard both ways regarding Dredd. The Stalone version was really pretty bad, but I always liked the way it looked. What do you think of the new one?

In Theatres

Dredd 3D is fantastic. So far, it's this year's Drive.

At Home

Halloween 3: Season of the Witch- it's not a great film but it's better than Halloween 2 (1981).

There are probably more films that I'd seen but I don't seem to remember them right now...
