@Michelle, I'd watched Deep Blue Sea in theatres when it came out and loved it. And I still do. It's just bloody good fun.

And re Bernie, the film is amazing. Truly fantastic. But so much so that I refuse to review it. Helen's taking the difficult task of reviewing it (when you'll see it you'll know why it's a difficult film to review) and I can't wait to read it. It's just too wonderful of a film for words.

@Ken: I had sensed skepticism when I pulled out a DVD with a giant shark on the cover. That scene alone was enough to validate my recommendation. :D

@Miriam: The Fathom/TCM series is VERY encouraging. A lot of multiplexes are participating, and that wouldn't be the case if prior one-night-only shows (WIZARD OF OZ, SINGIN IN THE RAIN, BACK TO THE FUTURE among others) hadn't performed well. The one week IMAX engagement for RAIDERS didn't exactly set any box office records, but I don't know what the expectations were, or if ticket sales mattered particularly- you have to figure these DVD/Blu-ray release tie-in screenings are largely chalked up to marketing expenses anyway.

I had fun seeing Raiders of the Lost Ark in IMAX this week. The Fathom/TCM series only has a couple of movies that I really want to see but it's very encouraging that they're doing it. Maybe these DVD releases and special events will become a kind of national repertory film circuit - a woman can dream, can't she?
