A good choice! I remember this movie for it’s wonderful stark setting, Holden’s performance, and above all the terrific climax. The ’50′s were a great period for Westerns, weren’t they? It’s a shame the genre seems to have been reduced in popular memory to simple shoot-em ups.
The Western is my favourite film genre, just above Film Noir. And luckily one needs to go back in time in order to watch more Westerns because they’ve kind of been discontinued. Which is a damn shame.
