Last Week at the Movies
East of Eden
Last Week at Home
Thor
Fires on the Plain
Brassed Off
New in Theaters This Weekend
That’s My Boy, which looks egregiously bad even for an Adam Sandler comedy, and Rock of Ages, an ’80s-set musical that (based on the trailer) probably should have been about the supporting characters.
What have you been watching? What are you looking forward to?

At the Movies
Prometheus- Fan-freakin-tastic! and I saw it in IMAX!
At Home
Spider-Man 2- it’s still the greatest superhero film ever made
Sherlock Holmes: a Game of Shadows- gotta love it, and its predecessor!
At the Movies
East of Eden Richly emotional and wonderfully ‘big screen’. Much of the story is told just through the arrangements and spacing of the characters in the wide frame, and the landscapes are effectively used too.
@Helen – I’d never seen this and I feel really lucky that the first viewing was in a theater. Thanks for finding these special showings.
It’s terribly sad that James Dean appeared in only 3 films, in a two year period, and then recklessly died. He and Marlon Brando were two of the first “method” actors and Dean had as tremendous a talent as Brando, but he was more handsome than Brando. He was also a loose canon but that was just another awesome aspect of his personality.
But can you imagine having started an acting career and immediately working underneath Elia Kazan (East of Eden), Nicholas Ray (Rebel Without a Cause), and George Stevens (Giant)? Dean was tremendously talented, lucky, and then he was tragically cut off.
