The Photo Play theme for March is… what movie is this tree from?
ANSWER: The New World (2005)
Last Week on Photo Play: The Natural (1984)
Coming Next: Foreign Correspondent (1940)
I’m going to take another guess and I don’t know why this film sprang to mind: Pride and Prejudice.
Sorry, Nir, the dress is all wrong. This is from the end of The New World.
I have no idea where this movie is from, but the theme is interesting and does bring to mind a really obscure movie from the 70’s entitled ‘Mr. Sycamore’ in which a man (Jason Robards) becomes fed up with society and decides to drop-out by turning himself into a sycamore tree.
@Miriam, how’s that possible?! I love The New World and that tree looks fake as a beard on a woman!
Nevertheless Miriam is correct. It looks like a real tree to me, although it doesn’t look as good in a DVD screencap as it looked on the big screen. :-)
I love this scene. The shot of her standing in the tree especially remains with me as one of the film’s most hauntingly beautiful images.
Every shot in every Malick film is beautiful. That’s why he’s one of the best American filmmakers of the last 50+ years.
