Watched Carnage over a month ago and was terribly disappointed. I’m a huge Polanski fan and supporter and it was his weakest film to date.
Also watched Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, not having watched the BBC miniseries or having read the book but was disappointed only by the actual storytelling aspect. I can tell that a lot of detail and character development is missing because this film had none. And not having any characters developed I was lost from the beginning and was just waiting for the ending to come. That being said, the cinematography, costumes, and performances are outstanding. The film felt cold, as it should having taken place during the Cold War.

And from the top film list I want to watch The Descendents and My Week with Marylin.

I’d like to see “The Descendants” as well, especially since it looks to be a heavy favorite for a best picture nomination.

And Manoranjaninc’s site now says (in the center column, above the graphic for the film itself, not off to the left side, where such info usually appears) that their print of Nanban, the Tamil-language remake of the Bollywood super-hit Three Idiots, has English subtitles. There are only five more shows remaining at the Georgetown 14 in Indianapolis- as of now, at least… more could be added later.

I’ve also seen some sites for theaters playing Indian films elsewhere in the US (like the FunAsia theaters in Texas) claim that they are showing English-subtitled prints of the Telugu film Businessman. Maybe that’s true- and maybe the prints at the Georgetown 14 have English subtitles as well, but they just aren’t mentioned on manoranjaninc’s site…

@Nir, I haven’t seen ‘Carnage’ yet, but I still think Polanski’s worst movie is ‘Pirates’ from 1985 starring Walter Matthau. The special effects are chessy, the pacing is poor, and the story goes nowhere. It looks amateurish all around. I was dissapointed because I am a big fan of Matthau, but he ends up being wasted.

  7. Jan 14 2012

@Richard, I haven’t watched Pirates but have heard of it for years. I’ve also heard that it’s one of the worst movies of the second half of the 20th century. And I also like Matthau a lot. The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, Charade…
