Keeping Track (December 29, 2011)
by HELEN GEIB
Last Week at the Movies
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows- a must-see if you liked the first film
Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol- the action movie of the year
Last Week at Home
All titles I’d seen before except for the early “Christmas Carol” adaptation, although it had been so long since I’d seen Scrooged that it was the next thing to new.
Scrooged- aggressively manic at frequent intervals but a respectable interpretation nonetheless
Scrooge (1935)- a lesser version with some fine Dickensian moments
Paheli- delightful folktale-inspired romance starring Shahrukh Khan and Rani Mukerji
Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge- this Bollywood mega-blockbuster really has it all
The Fall- screened it for some cinephile friends
New in Theaters This Weekend
Nothing new at the multiplex, as Hollywood lets the Christmas releases play out. Nothing new on the local arthouse circuit either.
I have plans to see The Artist and The Adventures of Tintin over the long weekend. With luck I can fit in a third film, maybe Young Adult or a second viewing of M:I 4.
What have you been watching? What are you looking forward to?

Last week in theatres:
Sherlock Homes: A Game of Shadows. And it was absolutely fantastic. Jarred Harris plays a terrific Moriarty.
This week at home:
Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis (Welcome to the Sticks, 2008). It’s my second viewing since it came out. It’s a fun, funny, French film and a real delight.
And I’ve just re-watched Casino Royale (2006) on Blu-ray. It’s not only the second greatest Bond film, it’s also gorgeous on Blu-ray!
I am intrigued by Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis but initially unsuccessful in finding a copy. Both my public library and Netflix came up blank and even your recommendation won’t persuade me to gamble $39.95 for a copy through Amazon. I’ll add it to my ‘see this someday’ list and be patient.
I’m guessing it’s another France/Canada relation thing. I bought it from the shelves of my store when it on sale for $6.99 (minutes my 20% discount). Keep it on your list, it’s a fun little film
