Do NOT see Skyline.

You have been warned.

How bad is it?

Let me count the ways.

Thinking Outside the Multiplex in Indiana (November 12, 2010)

by MIKE MACCOLLUM

Last week, it looked like there would be just one limited release movie starting in all of Indiana, Inside Job- and it seemed like that one would be opening at only one theater. The news is a little bit better today- not only is Inside Job going to be at one other theater, it won’t be the only new limited release film – Lebanon and A Woman, a Gun and a Noodle Shop are along for the ride as well. For all of the details, and more- including multiple film festivals and everything from classic Kurosawa to masked Mexican wrestlers- read on below…. Read more »

DVD of the Week – Three Films for Thanksgiving

by HELEN GEIB

Struggling to think of an appropriate movie to watch to celebrate Thanksgiving? Try one of these- very different from each other- three films with a Thanksgiving focus:

Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987)

Ask someone to name the first Thanksgiving-themed movie that comes into her head and she’ll probably say Planes, Trains & Automobiles, John Hughes’ road movie comedy of the misadventures of a buttoned-down Chicago businessman trying- with the help and hindrance of an obnoxiously friendly traveling salesman- to make it home from New York in time for Thanksgiving dinner. Steve Martin and John Candy play the odd couple. Read more »

NOVEMBER 30, 2010- FINAL POLLS ARE NOW UP FOR THE “BEST OF THE DECADE”

Vote now for the best films of 2008 and 2009.

The reader favorites for 2006 and 2007 were Letters from Iwo Jima and No Country for Old Men. The former won by a small margin, the latter by a healthy one. Voter turnout was down by about half from the polls for 2004 and 2005.

Thinking Outside the Multiplex in Indiana (November 5, 2010)

LIMITED RELEASE THEATRICAL FILMS OPENING IN INDIANA THIS WEEK

Action Replayy- This Hindi-language comedy from India is about a guy who somehow goes back to the seventies in an attempt to prevent present-day troubles in his parents’ relationship. I have no idea why there are two “y”s in the title, but I can tell you that this movie has a cool, seventies-style poster and web site, for those of you who like retro styling. Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai star in Action Replayy, which starts Friday, November 5, at the Georgetown 14 in Indianapolis. Read more »

Hollywood Releases Preview – November, 2010

by HELEN GEIB

My weekend picks for the upcoming month at the multiplex. The full release schedule by date (with links to the films’ IMDb pages) is at the end.

November 5- Due Date

Strong shades of Planes, Trains and Automobiles: Robert Downey Jr. is the family man with a deadline and Zach Galifianakis is the oddball he somehow gets stuck traveling cross-country with in this buddy comedy/road movie. Directed by Todd Phillips (The Hangover). Read more »

DVD of the Week – Review of Toy Story 3 (2010)

by NIR SHALEV

Toy Story 3 is not just the DVD of the week, it’s also one of 2010’s best films. And seeing that its animated competition is a couple of films about childish antagonists and a film that’s very reminiscent of Star Wars but starring owls, it’s also the front-runner for the Oscar. Read more »
