Movie Review – Hot Tub Time Machine (2010)
by NIR SHALEV
In 2009, The Hangover reigned as the best mainstream, adult comedy of the year. Its premise of four men that venture into Las Vegas in order to enjoy a bachelor party and then can’t remember the magical night because they drank roofies worked because they spend the following two days backtracking to figure out why their hotel room has a tiger in the bathroom, a baby in the closet, and most importantly, why the groom is missing. The premise was plausible and the actors had a lot of fun and the movie was just darn hilarious. But believe me, it’s not as smart a film as Hot Tub Time Machine. Read more
Thinking Outside the Multiplex (April 9, 2010)
by MIKE MACCOLLUM
It’s a good week in Indianapolis for those among us who like to see veteran actors on the big screen, with Frankenstein Rising and The Runaways opening at the G14 and Landmark Keystone Art Cinema respectively. In other good news, the KAC has started showing art movies again. Not only are A Prophet and several other arthouse releases holding over for another week, two new limited release films open there this Friday- The Runaways and Saint John of Las Vegas- and other titles are on the way, according to the theater’s “coming soon” listings. Finally, no appearance by Letters to God in the “opening this week” section, despite its past appearances on these pages- the film is opening wide, or at least too wide for this column. Read more

Movie Review – Clash of the Titans (2010)
by HELEN GEIB
Clash of the Titans is a series of effects-driven action set-pieces strung on a clothesline plot and dressed up with classical mythology trappings. I enjoyed the ride, but the movie is not well-balanced and your mileage may vary. Read more
Thinking Outside the Multiplex (April 2, 2010)
by MIKE MACCOLLUM
This is another good week for off-beat theatrical films in Indiana- so good, in fact, that I don’t have the time to write a real introduction. To learn more, you’ll just have to keep reading…. Read more
Movie Review – Forgotten Silver (1995)
by NIR SHALEV

Director Peter Jackson is famous for having had the audacity to make the three epic Lord of the Rings films total over nine hours in length and for remaking the classic King Kong, also into a three hour epic. But perhaps his most ambitious project is a short documentary from the mid-nineties called Forgotten Silver. Read more
