I just saw it today. An extremely entertaining and uplifting film. However, it does not aim for emotional heftiness (I don’t feel like this is what it was trying to go for in the first place).

Hey, look at anime. At least 70% of it the shows and movies are for adults and most of most of them are OVAs (Original Video Animation, which means they went straight to video).

I’m with the majority on this one; it’s a very entertaining film. I don’t see it as a family film at all, outside of the persistent American equating of animation with children. It was very amusing and Clooney’s voice work was excellent.

hmm, in this case my 2.5 equates to something like ‘recommended to anderson fans only’, so that depends on you. i don’t mean to complain that it’s too wes anderson and not enough dahl; more that every anderson film would be ‘too wes anderson’ for my liking without the melancholy underlying the quirks. this one seems to be mostly a stylistic experiment with substance coming as an afterthought, but for some anderson lovers i’m sure the style is enough by itself. i found myself admiring the craft in places but there was no magic there for me.

btw, i’m a brit and i hate cider, at least these days :p

The three farmers give the movie its charm and focus. Simultaneously greedy, protective, bumbling, and aggressive, they make you want to see their products find new homes. Warning to American viewers: the Brits drink hard cider the way we drink Old Milwaukee.

You’ll have to ask Tom, it’s his rating. ;) Personally I am still really looking forward to seeing it and planning to do so today, but that’s because of Anderson’s track record (I adore The Royal Tenenbaums and really like The Life Aquatic).

Besides, how can it be Ocean’s 11 without Brad Pitt?! ^_^

It’s strange how some people call THIS film “amazing” and others feel that it’s too Wes Anderson and too little Dahl and therefore, say skip it. I am just amazed as to how this film could have possibly become amazing in the first place. It’s Ocean’s 11 with foxes and that Anderson touch. And I don’t even like the half-assed stop-motion jerkiness of it.

Helen, does 2 1/2 stars means rent it or skip it?
