I agree that T1 is the best in the series. By T2 Ahnuld had become to big for his own britches and was only interested in steering his public image back toward 'good guy'. Cameron went along with him because, hey, even geniuses make mistakes. T2 was ponderous and felt like a story constructed of individually conceived scenes where T1 was a coherent whole; purged of post modern irony and moral relativism. The terminator was bad, Reese was good. Period. So when the terminator got his steely head squished nobody was thinking that he's some kind of victim. It's throwback storytelling wrapped in a cyberpunk outfit.

Thank you for the compliment.

I love the fact that this film is more of a horror film than an action film and that it's entirely character driven. And Michael Biehn delivers a very emotional and human performance, showcasing the fragility of man versus the unstoppable terminators; and that's one good reason why he also plays in Cameron's "The Abyss", although there he plays a bad guy.

I agree with Nemesis on this one. The original, to me, was far superior, chilling even at times, than any that followed, especially the last one. Sure, watching it today, the CGI effects look a little crude, but they were nothing short of amazing back in the day. Thanks for a great review.

The 1st one is easily the best, totally carried by Arnie, but with great support from the other cast. Not sure why the sequel gets so much praise over the 1st, arnie is dumbed down, made 2 act like an idiot (standing on one foot)and is so politically correct (no human casulties) and is a bit too long for an action movie. More of a re-hash of the 1st movie without the slasher feel to it, plus too much focus on Sarah Connor & the MTV generation teenage John Connor who was just frankly annoying
The intial Terminator story owes more to Harlan Elison's Outer Limits episodes than anything.

Terminator is one of my favorite movies ever. There is so much humanity in the plot. Sarah Connor and Kyle are so vulnerable facing the inhuman determination and strength of the machine. The love affair between the two fugitives is palpably romantic and desperate.
The second Terminator is all about special effects. Sarah's personality has changed immensely. I read somewhere, and I totally agree with the now-forgotten author, that in the second Terminator Sarah Connor herself can carry the title role.
Nowadays, after we've been exposed to morphing effects in ads and even sitcoms(Roseanne), there is even less to celebrate about the movie. In the end, it's always about the story, and the first Terminator is a wonderful story.
