Even Liam Neeson could only do so much in Batman Begins, and the same problem rears its ugly head here in Iron Man. For the most part, though, I enjoyed the film. Favreau moves everything along briskly and casting Downey Jr. was a stroke of brilliance. For me, origin stories are often a tough fit for superhero movies. I do have to agree that it's not exactly subtle, but there wasn't any particular aspect that I didn't enjoy. Personally, I liked it better than both Batman Begins and CERTAINLY Spider-Man 2, but that's just me. I loved Iron Man. I'll be well pleased if all the Marvel films are as enjoyable. Not that I don't see flaws (in fact, I agree with most of your criticisms and also give it a 3 star rating), but there was so much that worked that the good easily carried the film over the rough parts. Downey Jr. makes the movie, and I also liked the humor in the dialogue and in running jokes like the Iron Man's landing issues. I had a good time at Iron Man.
