It’s definitely more accessible to the public than his previous film “2046″- as much as I am a fan of his, that one really didn’t do much for me- beautifully filmed, naturally, but not much in the way to connect with.

“My Blueberry Nights” reminded me strongly of “Chungking Express,” almost as if this movie was the story of Faye Wong’s character after she leaves and Tony Leung’s character takes over the food stand.

I agree too with the criticisms of both Jones’ acting and the script- there were several moment when it seemed like there was a bright red sign over her head, flashing “acting, acting, acting,” and parts of the script, especially the last voice-over line, made me grit my teeth, though that could partially be due to Jones’ delivery.

An interesting thought I’ve read elsewhere- would the problems with the script have been more forgivable had the movie been done in Chinese, as his previous films had been?

Overall, an enjoyable film, and a solid addition to Wong’s body of work.
