The film makers cleverly pushed the time frame back to the early '70s, when the old British establishment was tottering on the brink of collapse, but the new leaders of Tories and Labor had not yet emerged. That allowed some savage digs at the Royals, Scotland Yard, and MI 5 (or is it 6?) that helped to set, and disturb, the tone.

It's much more of an ensemble picture than a star vehicle. Statham has a central role, but I wouldn't say he needs to carry the film.

I really enjoy a good heist movie, so I might have to reconsider this one. In the past I haven't trusted Jason Statham to carry a movie, but reviews have been good enough to make me think twice.
