This movie makes explicit the cartoon quality of the violence in the modern action movie. The sky-diving scene is fantastic but it's the post-script to the stunts that is brilliant. Someone had to clue me in to the "kill the wabbit" theme, but I had no trouble recognizing the Bugs and Elmer style. Owen's deadpan and dead-on performance makes it all work somehow. It's a singular, accomplished, and hugely entertaining film.

I loved it. The true target of all those bullets is the Hollywood overblown action movie (it would make a great double feature with Hot Fuzz, which takes on a different Hollywood action movie paradigm). The movie sets up the cliches and knocks 'em down, or rather, shoots 'em up one after the other. Shoot 'Em Up wasn't that exciting as an action movie, but it was hilarious as a parody and I was smiling and laughing from start to finish.

Owen and Giamatti are superb. It takes great talent and charisma to pull off a role that is simultaneously character and caricature.
